I don't know what it is about Jeep CJ and Wrangler owners but there seems to exist this kind of brotherhood among us. I have owned my Wrangler now for about five years, and whenever I encounter another Wrangler or CJ driver on the road, the other driver almost always initiates a friendly wave.

Of course when I first realized what was going on - that I had been inducted into this brotherhood by virtue of the fact that I, too, own a Wrangler - I also began to take the initiative and started waving at other Jeep drivers along the beaten path.
Almost without exception, they will give a hearty wave back at me.

The bikers have their wave and I guess we do, too.

Long live the Jeep. :)

O. U. vs Texas Tech and the Trip to Norman

My Dad treated my brother and myself to an O.U. Football Game yesterday. It was a great game... that is if you are a Sooner fan! We sat in the south end zone 75 rows up and we were grouped in among 10 or 15 Tech fans. Yikes! I think the Texas Tech fans became stunned about the time the second quarter rolled around. The athleticism displayed by O.U.'s running backs was truly amazing and Tech just wasn't ready for them.

I wanted to take some pictures but dog-gone-it, I didn't have my camera with me! While we were waiting in line for tickets, I thought I heard over the loudspeaker that cameras and binoculars were among the items not allowed in the stadium, so I took them back to my Dad's vehicle. But after being in the stadium for a while I saw other people with binoculars and cameras, I thought, what the heck? Then I realized that it was the CASES for these items that were not allowed in the stadium, not the items themselves. Bummer! Otherwise I could have had some great pics to display here.

Oh, well. Maybe next time.

It has been many years since I last visited Norman and it sparked several good memories for me. We used to live there back in the sixties when my brother and I were just youngsters, probably from the time I was five until about ten years of age. In the early sixties my Dad had acquired several old frat and sorority houses close to the campus in order to remodel them for students to live in; this was his livelihood for many years in Norman. Had we arrived in town early enough on game day, we would have gone around to the various old fraternity and sorority houses he used to own so I could take some pics. But alas, we arrived too late to do any of that.

I did, though, have time to snap a shot of one of his old properties - 700 Elm - because we parked just a couple of houses away from it. If anyone remembers reading on my blog previously about my haunted house story in Norman, well, this is the property.

All in all we had a great time.

While I realize that most Republicans don't seem to care much about the Constitution anymore, I still do. It is routinely trampled upon by parties on both sides of the isle and has been for quite some time. Some would argue that it is outdated and has no real place in a modern world with all of its complexities. I, however, would disagree with this because contained within this document we call the Constitution is a profound understanding of the fallible nature of human beings and their propensity to do evil to one another, which has remained essentially the same since the fall of Adam. It is therefore my firm belief that if we would reinstate this fine (though not perfect) document as the standard by which we govern, a great many of America's problems would eventually disappear.

The reason that Republicans only occasionally give lip service to the Constitution but don't really want to talk about it in depth is because it shines a light in dark places, thereby exposing how lawless the Republican Party has really become, and that makes them uncomfortable.

Of course it goes without saying that most Democrats are just as lawless.

BTW, I am a registered Republican.

Our Spiritual Heritage and the Egyptian Obelisk

Uh, what does Christian heritage have to do with an Egyptian obelisk? I found this ad on a Christian web site and thought it quite ironic. And it just goes to show how "in the dark" most Christians really are about these pagan symbols.

Excerpt from Cutting Edge Ministries:

All pagans love to worship the creature rather than the Creator [Romans 1:25]; therefore, every single pagan group in the world worships the Sex Act. Both Satanism and Freemasonry absolutely love the Obelisk. The Egyptians created the obelisk, believing that the spirit of the Sun god, Ra, dwelt in there. [H.L. In the Bible, we see the obelisk in use in Baal worship, the priests killed on God's orders, and the obelisks destroyed. Listen to the account i which God destroyed these obelisks: ""… King Jehu said to the guards and to the officers, 'Go in and slay them; let none escape'. And they smote them with the sword; and the guards before the king threw their bodies out, and went into the inner dwelling of the house of Baal. They brought out the obelisks [pillars] of the house of Baal and burned them." [2 Kings 10:26, Amplified Bible]

The next time you see an obelisk in your Freemasonry organization, you now know you are looking at one of the supreme objects in Baal worship, for which God ultimately destroyed Israel. You are also tolerating a Satanic symbol of the sex act.

I don't downplay the role Christianity has had in the structure of our nation, (I'm a Christian myself) but I do want to try and get people to "think outside the box" for a moment, specifically Christians. Jesus said that His kingdom is a spiritual kingdom, not an earthly kingdom. America is merely an earthly kingdom, and as such is subject to the wiles and influence of the "god of this world"(2 Corinthians 4:4), as is any other kingdom of this world. Sometimes I think we Christians erroneously tend to equate America with Jesus and Jesus with America, and that's just not Biblically accurate.

The Letter

Here's a link to a page on my family web site that I recently updated. Today I scanned in a letter that will be 102 years-old next month. It is a family heirloom of sorts that tells the story of how my g,g grandmother (Letitia Keys Denbo) met with her demise back in 1906. It is a heart-wrenching account as told by someone that was very close to her - one of her children.

It was one of those stories that I remembered hearing while I was growing up but I didn't give it much thought then. It wasn't until much later in life when I became interested in my family genealogy that the stories took on new meaning for me. Seeing the photographs and reading the historical accounts of the lives of my ancestors made them more real and interesting to me. It has also been rewarding to me by way of the emails I've received over the years from various researchers from around the world who have been better able to connect the dots in their own family lines because of the material I've posted online. I've even met some relatives I never knew I had.

Soon I'm going to post a Civil War letter written in 1864 by a distant relative of mine while in a Union P.O.W camp. It is quite intriguing.

Jesus was a man, but not an ordinary man.

He was a man born from the seed of woman. Galatians 4:4 "But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law."

He was brutally executed by crucifixion. Matthew 27:33-56 "And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull, they gave Him wine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink. And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots. And sitting down, they began to keep watch over Him there. And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

Luke 23:33-48 "One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him.... It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT." Having said this, He breathed His last."
He was rejected by His people. John 1:11 "He came to His own and those who were His own did not receive Him."

He was raised from the dead. Acts 1:3 "To these [apostles] He presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of 40 days...."

But He was not an ordinary man. He was God Himself who laid His life down for us.

Jesus was sinless. Even His enemies could find no sin in Him. Luke 23:13-49 "Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, 'You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.'...Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, 'Certainly this man was innocent.'"

Jesus was God Himself. John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God."
Collosians 1:15, 19 "And He is the image of the invisible God....For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him."
Hebrews 1:3 "And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power."
Romans 9:5 "...from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever."

When this story first broke, I remember thinking to myself: Politicians do this sort of thing all the time. Why him? Why now? And why are they making such a big deal out of it?

Don't get me wrong, soliciting prostitutes is an immoral thing to do, especially if you're married. But as I already wrote above, this kind of thing isn't uncommon in the halls of government at all.

So what gives?

As you will discover after reading the story I'm posting a link to below, Spitzer was really on a crusade to protect the American people from predatory lending practices, and you'll never guess which powerful politician was the primary mover and shaker behind wanting his affair to be exposed.

The one entitled "Lions in the Backyard" has some footage of a Checotah, Oklahoma ranch where this rancher's livestock are coming up missing. Get this: they suspect it's a black Jaguar! Apparently, and I didn't know this, the southern half of the U.S. used to be part of the Jaguar's natural range but they were thought to have been killed off in the late 1800's. They now believe they are migrating up from Central and South America to reclaim their old habitat.

The Jaguar is the third largest cat. Yikes!

I watched the one about Bigfoot, too. Interesting.

The Cleveland Trip

No time to write anything lengthy tonight so I'm going to post some photos from a trip my father-in-law and I took to Cleveland, Ohio this past summer. He and my mother-in-law are originally from the Cleveland area. The church you see in some of the photos is a really old Catholic church in downtown Cleveland that his aunt still attends. The workmanship is truly amazing in the old church and was done by Irish-American immigrants in the late 1800's.

The river tug you see is on the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland.

This is an amazing sermon given by Pastor Rod Parsley at "Breakthrough Church" in Columbus Ohio regarding not only the evils of personal dept, but also the evil of the American monetary debt-usury system and the inflation it creates. If this is your first exposure to how our Federal Reserve monetary system really operates, you may be quite shocked. This is yet another reason I would encourage you all to vote for Ron Paul because he is the only presidential candidate who is talking about putting a stop to this wicked system of debt-usury. Truly, if we don't put a stop to the Federal Reserve system and return to a constitutional-based money, a money with no debt attached to it, then the futures of our children are at stake.

A Chip off the old block

My daughter and I have this "jump-out-and-scare-each-other" thing going on. If you can imagine the old slapstick Peter Seller's movies when Kato used to jump out and attack Peter Sellers then you'll get the picture. I started it when she was a bit younger and she loves it, even though at times it makes her heart skip a beat or two, as it does mine when she jumps out at me. She's just a chip off the old block as far as being a practical joker goes.

Last night she got me good! We were all over at my sister-in-law's house ringing in the New Year when my daughter walked into the kitchen area, which is visible from the living room where her mother, myself and my sister-in-law were all watching TV. My wife told her to come in and sit down with all of us. In her typical fashion as of late, she said "no", and then quickly disappeared back down the hallway. My wife then called out to her again to come back in and sit down with us, as did I.

No reply.

So I then reluctantly got up off the nice, comfortable sofa I was sitting on and went down the hallway expecting to see her when I entered the back bedroom, where the other TV and computer are. But there was no sign of her and she wouldn't respond when I called her name. I opened the closet door in the room half-expecting her to jump out at me then, but she wasn't in there either. I then checked the other bedroom nearby, following the same routine of opening the closet door and looking under the bed. But there was still no sign of her. By then I was getting a little bit miffed. The only room left to check was the bathroom in the hallway, which I did. I opened the bathroom door to find no light on, yet it wasn't completely dark because the light was on in the hallway. I quickly scanned the room and it was obviously empty, or so I thought. It was then that she jerked back the shower curtain and jumped out at me with a bloodcurdling scream! In an instant all I could think about was the shower scene in "Psycho"! And yes, my heart must have skipped several beats when at first I jumped back in a defensive posture expecting the worst!

After the initial shock had worn off and I realized I had been set up, I gave my daughter the "high-five" approvingly. After all, she's just a chip off the old bock. :)

This past October we had a "Ron Paul March" down Brookside Street in Tulsa. It was fun and we received lots of positive reactions both from passing motorists and pedestrians.

I am truly amazed at the diverse groups of people that are attracted to Dr. Paul's message of liberty and a return to the kind of government our founders originally envisioned for America - one based on the Rule of Law, limited government and a CLEAR separation of powers. Well today it was doggy bath day for our German Shepherd, Jewel. There is a new business in town (Route 66 Dog Wash) that makes it rather simple to wash your own dog - a novel idea really. You can see from the details in the video how it works. Just walk your dog up the ramp into the wash basin (no more stooping over to wash Rover) and start washing. The basin has a grate for the dog to stand on which allows the water to pass down through a drain to the floor. There is a dial you turn to get the desired wash cycle: Rinse, Shampoo, Conditioner, Blow Dry Big Dog, Blow Dry Little Dog, Warm blow dry or room temperature. Neat, huh?

We spent a total of around 11 bucks, but now that we know how it works, next time it will probably be cheaper for us because of familiarity.

Hey, that gives me an idea for a practical joke. Since I saved the screen capture in the same resolution my monitor operates in, I think I'll maximize it and just leave it open. The next time my wife comes in to use the computer and she clicks on the icons, they won't work, and she'll call me in to ask me what's wrong with the computer.

I was out and about this morning during another one of our frequent (at least lately) rainstorms and took this footage. The road where I made the splash with the Jeep is the north/south road just behind the water treatment plant at the lake. The flooded bridge you see is right in front of Frank Robson's place. The bridge further down is just west of Franks' place, in that newer addition. And yes, I, too, forded through the water just like the other brave souls you saw. :)

I took a lot of still photographs too, which I will post later.

My wife had a little accident earlier this week. Fortunately her SUV is still drivable and she wasn't hurt. As she was pulling into our driveway, she accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake, landing her right into our front porch.

Since the pictures were first taken, I have straightened up the stones on our porch and I put her grill back together so it wouldn't look quite as bad. Other than being a little embarrassed (the neighbors were out when she did it), she's pretty much over it now.

I'm just glad it wasn't me that did it. Whew!!

The Illusion

Here's something neat you can entertain yourselves with. A friend emailed it to me today.

This is another example of an amazing illusion!!! (The last sentence is so true.)

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.

However if you stare at the black "+" in the center,
the moving dot turns to green.

Now, concentrate on the black "+" in the center of the picture.
After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single green dot rotating.

It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough that we don't always see what we think we see.

My Messy Desktop

Here it is, Ladies and Gentleman - my messy desktop. Yes, I know. I need to do some spring-cleaning on it.

Other things I need to do today:

I really need to cut a piece of Plexiglas I brought home from work for our front storm door because our German Shepherd destroyed it the last big storm we had. She jumped the backyard fence and frantically tried to paw her way into the house, smashing the bottom Plexiglas in the process. Fortunately for me I work in maintenance at a hospital and if I wait long enough, eventually I can get materials like Plexiglas without having to pay for it. I was hanging a new eraser board for our E.R. department yesterday and asked them if they really needed the Plexiglas backing they had behind their old eraser board. They said no and the rest is history.

Change the oil in my Jeep. Drudgery but a necessary task.

Attend our daughter's soccer game. I may take some video footage since it's a team she really wants to beat.

We may go shopping for a surround sound system for our T.V. (tax money came back), and a new computer monitor while we're at it because this old one is about to give out. There are lines at the top, which means it has a short. I've put up with it as long as I can. Time for a new one.

Question: Do you think a CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor gives a better picture or are the new LCD monitors the only way to go? I've looked at both and still can't decide which gives a better display.

I know I already sent this out to everyone, but for some reason I keep
getting emails with the senders list visible. And our address is right there
for anyone/everyone to take. Please help protect everyone's info. you have
in your address book by following these simple steps! Thanks

Someone who is a computer expert received the following directly from a
system administrator for a corporate system. It is an excellent message
that ABSOLUTELY applies to ALL of us who send e-mails. Please read the
short letter below, even if you're sure you already follow proper
procedures.

Do you really know how to forward e-mails? 50% of us do; 50% DO NOT.

Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail? Do you hate it?

Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the
people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses &
names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds,
and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a
virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every E-mail address
that has come across his computer.

Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk
mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five
cents for each hit. That's right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel!
How do you stop it? Well, there are several easy steps:

(1) When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that
appear in the body of the message (at the top). That's right, DELETE them.
Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever it is you
know how to do. It only takes a second. You MUST click the "Forward" button
first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and
headers of the message. If you don't click on "Forward" first, you won't be
able to edit the message at all.

(2) Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person, do NOT use the
To: or Cc: fields for adding e-mail addresses. Always use the BCC:(blind
carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail addresses. This is the way the
people you send to will only see their own e-mail address. If you don't see
your BCC: option click on where it says To: and your address list will
appear. Highlight the address and choose BCC: and that's it, it's that easy.
When you send to BCC: your message will automatically say "Undisclosed
Recipients in
the "TO:" field of the people who receive it.

(3) Remove any "FW :" in the subject line. You can re-name the subject
if you wish or even fix spelling.

(4) ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are
reading. Ever get those e-mails that you have to open 10 pages to read the
one page with the information on it? By Forwarding from the actual page you
wish someone to view, you stop them from having
to open many e-mails just to see what you sent.

(5) Have you ever gotten an email that is a petition? It states a
position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10
or 15 people or your entire address book. The email can be forwarded on and
on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses. A FACT: The
completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional
spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained
therein. If you want to support the petition, send it as your own personal
letter to the intended recipient. Your position may carry more weight as a
personal letter than a laundry list of names and email address on a
petition. (Actually, if you think about it, who's supposed to send the
petition in to whatever cause it supports? And don't believe the ones that
say that the email is being traced, it just ain't so!)

One of the main ones I hate is the ones that say that something like,
"Send this email to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your
screen." Or sometimes they'll just tease you by saying 'something really
cute will happen.' IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!!! (Trust me, I'm still seeing
some of the same ones that I waited on 10 years ago!)

I don't let the bad luck ones scare me either, they get trashed... could
be why I haven't won the lottery.. except that I haven't bought a ticket
anyhow!)

Before you forward an 'Amber Alert', or a 'Virus Alert', or some of the
other ones floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them.
Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for YEARS! Just
about everything you receive in an email that is in question can be checked
out at Snopes or TruthorFiction. Just go to www.snopes.com or
www.truthorficton.com. It's really easy to find out if it's real or not.
If it's not, please don't pass it on.

So please, in the future, let's stop the junk mail and the viruses.

Finally, here's an idea!!! Let's send this on to others (but strip my
address off first, please). This is something that SHOULD be forwarded.

Google Reportedly Purchases Land At Pryor Industrial Plant

This is some exciting news for our neck of the woods. We were just talking about this in my shop today. I guess the word on the street is that Google is interested in our area because we have good, stable power; something that Google in their present location doesn't have. Apparently they routinely experience brown-outs, not a good combination if you're trying to maintain thousands of web servers.

There is even talk that our power company, GRDA, will build them their own sub-station as an extra incentive to build here.

Pryor is a small town just fourteen mile east of Claremore, where I live.

Internet Connection Speed

These are the latest speed-test figures for my DSL connection. Back when I had dial-up the fasted download speed I could attain was 52 kbps, quite a difference from the connection I have now, which to me is blazing fast; however I do understand that there are cable broadband users who routinely clock in at 10,000 kbps or better for download speeds. I guess cable is still king for the fastest connections in most instances, but from what I read it can slow down appreciably when lots of people in the same neighborhood jump online at the same time, not that that happens very often though.

DSL doesn't have that problem.

We'd probably have a cable Internet connection too if it weren't for the convenience of our Internet charges being tacked on to our monthly phone bill.

The Burger Brothers

These two brothers were good childhood friends of my brother and I and we would never have guessed that they would have been capable of the acts they committed. Naturally my brother and I were shocked and saddened when we first heard the story on the news back in '89. We spent a lot of time together as kids and did all the things boys normally do: Ride bikes, camp, fish, hunt, tell spooky stories, play hide-and-seek and so forth and so on. There was no obvious indication of the deviant behavior that led them both to the prison terms they now serve.

We lost contact with the Burger brothers after 1977; we just grew apart as childhood friends sometimes do and didn't hear anymore about them until they were in the news.

You just never know.

Hunting for arrowheads

I'm thinking about taking up a new hobby: Hunting for arrowheads.

Not far from where I live is a hill called "The Claremore Mound", where an Osage Indian village used to be. A Great Granddad of mine used to live at the base of the Mound, and right after it rained he would climb up the hill and look around for arrowheads that had been newly exposed by the rains. As a child I remember seeing hundreds of the arrowheads he had collected over the years and I always wanted to give it a try myself someday.

The thought of finding artifacts of civilizations long-extinct has always intrigued me. When I held some of my Granddad's arrowheads in my hand, I would remember wondering what the person's life might have been like who made it and how different life must have been in general: What hardships did the individual face on a daily basis, and what joys and sorrows had they experienced during the course of his or her life? I would also wonder how old the arrowheads really were.

Interesting food for thought.

A friend and I were talking about hunting for arrowheads the other day and he knows a guy who paid cash for a new Toyota pick-up, which was funded solely by the sale of his arrowheads to collectors. Evidently, if documented accurately, hunting for arrowheads can also be aprofitable endeavor.

I don't know if I'll have the time to do this anytime soon, but when I do get the chance I'll post more about it.

Denbo Cemetery

I paid a visit to the Denbo Cemetery today, a very old, mostly-forgotten family cemetery in Catoosa, OK, where a lot of my ancestors are buried. I didn't photograph this stone when Dad and I were there four years ago. I think the child may have been Mattie (Denbo) Daughertery's daughter, since its name is also Mattie and the stone sits right next to Mattie's stone.

The date is hard to read in the large photograph but I when I blew it up I realized the child was only seven months old when she died, not an uncommon thing to happen back then, unfortunately. :(

Mattie was a Great, Great, Aunt of mine.

Spring is in the air

Spring is in the air once again here in Oklahoma after a long, hard winter. I heard the birds singing their hearts out this morning just outside my window -- one of the simple pleasures in life I truly enjoy, especially since it brings with it the promise of green grass, warmer weather, and flowers and trees soon to be in full bloom.

On a different note, this looks like a great film to see.
